David Pham Wins 2007 Player of the Year Title
CardPlayer has recently announced the winner of the 2007 Player of the Year title. David “The Dragon” Pham took home top honors after he solidified his 1st place position by winning Event #8 of the Five Diamond World Poker Classic earlier this month over at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, Nevada. The win not only earned him $279.000, but it also was enough to hold off his nearest competitor in the race, J.C. Tran.
Tran, who also took down event #12 in the aforementioned World Poker Classic earlier this month for over $500,000, just never seemed to muster enough steam to take down the mighty Pham. David Pham took over the Player of the Year race back in August and never seemed to look back.
The Player of the Year title is not measured by the amount of one’s winnings, but rather how many cashes, final tables, and wins are accumulated throughout the year. In 2007, David Pham tallied up an impressive 11 final tables and cashing in 18 poker tournaments. He took down four tournaments, most notably the $5,000 Heads Up Event at the Mirage Poker Showdown, as well as his Event #8 victory in the Five Diamond World Poker Classic.
This is David Pham’s 2nd POY victory, with his first coming in 2000. He joins an elite list of players that have won the award more than once. Men Nguyen (4) and TJ Cloutier (2) are the only other players to have snagged more than one Player of the Year title.
