Delaware to offer online pokerThe state of Delaware is now the second state in the United states to sign an online gambling bill into law. The governor of the state, Jack Markell, signed the Gaming Competitiveness Act into law just a few days ago just hours after it was passed in the state senate.
The signature gives the state of Delaware a leg up with the competition of online gambling options. Other states have tried to pass similar legislation but they have fallen short in the process.
Delaware Representative John Viola commented on t he bill which he introduced: “it was the governor’s bill. They produced the bill. I just pointed some things out that should be looked at. It’s their bus and I was just the driver.”
Viola believes that it will take about six months before the rules and regulations are created for online gaming. The lottery in the state will be handling this and then the project should be up and running efficiently by January 2013.
Markell stated: “I’d like to thank the legislators in both houses for their work to make this industry more competitive and keep so many people working.” The state has three casinos and all three will offer online gambling websites. Each site will operate under the jurisdiction of the Delaware state lottery.
The online casino sites will offer not only casino games but also lottery tickets. These options will make the state the first to legalize a full scale online gambling option.
Viola commented: “I think some states are going to want to take advantage of parts of what games can be offered by not all. We went full blown. You want to go online and play craps, poker slots, buy lottery tickets, Mega Millions, Powerball. You’re either in the game or out of the game. If you want to play, let’s play. I think we’re kind of on the forefront of internet gaming right now.”
