Yevgeniy Timoshenko Wins 2008 Asian Poker Tour Macau
A record number of 257 players signed up to participate in the 2008 Asian Poker Tour Macau and Yevgeniy Timoshenko managed to outlast them all and win the title and $500,000 prize. The event was featured at the Galaxy Starworld and had a buy-in of $5,300 with a $1.5 million guarantee.

Several high profile players came out to play in the high stakes event. Such players include: Todd Brunson, Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, J.C. Tran, Mel Judah and Liz Lieu. Timoshenko was sitting with a modest chip count when he made it to the final table but managed to gain an early lead.

Timoshenko took out Wah Cheong Wong and Julio Diaz, gaining a lead of over $1 million chips. Timoshenko would have a signifigant lead when he entered into heads up play against Joon Hee Yea. Yea only had $257,000 chips to Timoshenko’s $2.3 million chips.

On the last hand of the match, Timoshenko had pocket Queens against Yea’s K-Q. Timoshenko’s hand held up and the match was over. Yea would win $250,000 while Timoshenko took home twice that amount.

The next stop for the Asian Poker Tour will be the Seoul event. The dates for that event have not yet been announced. Following the Seoul event will be the Singapore event.
